Desert Current actually started about six years ago on social media under the name Locals Only. It began as a way to share the spots we loved — the food, drinks, and experiences that make Central Oregon feel like home. As it grew, the vision grew too. In 2022, we re-named the project Desert Current to reflect something deeper: the flow of culture here, the movement of people, stories, and places that shape the heart of Central Oregon.
What started as simple posts has expanded into something larger — video reviews, storytelling, photography, blog features, and soon, printed guides you can pick up around town. Our focus is still the same: highlight the restaurants, bars, small businesses, makers, and community members who make Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, Prineville, and the surrounding high desert what it is.
Desert Current isn’t just about where to go — it’s about who we are as a community.
We’re here to share what’s real, celebrate what’s special, and stay connected to the people who give this region its character. And soon, we’ll be bringing that connection offline too — with small, intentional community events that bring people together in meaningful ways.
