Sunday Funday at Café des Chutes
We finally made it to Café des Chutes in Bend, a European-inspired café I’ve been wanting to try since they opened December 2021. Café des Chutes took over the old Sparrow Bakery building in Bends Iconic “Old Ironworks Space”. This charming spot offers a mix of traditional, gluten-free, and vegan pastries and sandwiches, all paired with excellent coffee and a cozy atmosphere with a fun outdoor patio space. The menu is as diverse as it is delicious, and we were excited to try some of their standout items.
First, we had the B.A.T., a wonderful combination of smoked bacon, arugula chimichurri, tomato jam, and baked egg with fine herbs, all tucked into a flaky, buttered croissant. It was finished with a drizzle of agrumato lemon oil and a sprinkle of Maldon sea salt. The layers of flavor were incredible—the smoky bacon paired with the sweetness of the tomato jam made every bite unforgettable.
Next, we sampled the Ham, Egg & Cheese Sando—applewood smoked ham, Havarti cheese, and baked egg with fine herbs on a toasted English muffin. This classic sandwich was elevated by the high-quality ingredients and a flavorful sauce that tied it all together. Both savory sandwiches were beautifully prepared and bursting with fresh flavors.
For dessert, we couldn’t resist the Marionberry Bread Pudding. This sweet treat was the perfect end to our meal, with the tartness of the berries complementing the rich, bread pudding.
Of course, we paired our food with a latte and an Americano—both expertly brewed and the ideal companions to our meal. The coffee was smooth and robust, rounding out a truly satisfying experience.
